Rare large Wilhelmina Wendt silverisolit lidded bowl - 1953

Wilhelmina Wendt

$675.00

Handcrafted by Swedish silversmith Wilhelmina Wendt in 1953, this rare and exquisite lidded bowl is a testament to her remarkable talent and innovative vision.

Wilhelmina Wendt (1896 – 1988), known as Tiddit was the first woman in Sweden to be granted the title of "master silversmith". She was a trailblazer in Scandinavian design, known for her ability to merge traditional silversmithing techniques with modern aesthetics.

She is best known for her designs where she combined her father's black insulation material "isolit" with her own sterling silver designs, she called the resulting pieces "silverisolit”. The pieces are known for their strength and lustrous finish. This bowl, which is remarkably heavy, showcases her mastery of the material, combining artistry with durability.

Most of the pieces available are small in scale, but this substantial 18cm diameter bowl really makes a statement. The intricate Viking ship design on the lid speaks to Wendt’s love for her Nordic heritage — a tribute to the fearless explorers of the past.

It is in excellent condition with only a few very small knocks acquired over the past 70 years. Any flaws are magnified in the photos for your information but they do not detract from this stunning piece of Swedish design.

This mid-century bowl is not just a stunning work of art, but a piece of history, reflecting Wendt’s legacy in the world of design. Please get in touch if you have any questions.
