Antique First Period Worcester Porcelain Birds in Branches Bowl c. 1770-85

Worcester

$275.00

The decoration on this Worcester bowl delights me. It is a small survivor from the late 18th century but the multi bird design still feels fresh. I imagine it surviving a perilous sea voyage to New Zealand in the early days of settlement - a small piece of a colonist’s old home carried across the world to their new one. Of course, it may have come here on a modern plane a year ago but that it predates Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is in such wonderful condition makes it a rare treasure.

The bowl has the crescent mark to the base and the beautiful Birds in Branches pattern is transfer printed in underglaze blue. It is in excellent condition. There is a small firing flaw internally that is magnified in the photographs but it is to be expected with pieces from this period.

Please look closely at the photographs as they form part of the description. If you have any questions at all please get in touch.
