The various names for this piece of equipment seem harsh in a twenty-first century context - but whether you know it as a Lazy Susan or perhaps a dumb waiter - this is an exceptional example. It is made from native New Zealand wood and the details are recorded underneath. It is ancient kauri (30 - 50,000 years old) with inlay of totara burl, kahikatea, pohutukawa, rimu, rewarewa and puriri. The divisions between the different woods are made of recycled ebony and ivory piano keys. In addition to its obvious beauty it is also fully functional, spinning smoothly. It is showing some signs of age and use with a mark on the kauri surface and another small mark on the edge. Sadly I can’t make out the name of its creator but if anyone knows please share.

Please look closely at the photographs as they form an important part of the description. If you have any questions please get in touch (contact@eldercroftandsons.co.nz).
