Georgian Painting of Flowers on Rice Paper by Joseph Roberts

This charming Georgian painting of flowers arranged in an elegant urn by Joseph Roberts is showing its age, with some foxing and deterioration to the delicate rice paper. In 1999, its owners wisely undertook conservation remounting to ensure its long-term survival. They retained the original period frame and sensibly transferred the information from the original backing to its new backing paper. I’m always so grateful when people record the provenance of a piece allowing its story to travel on with it to its next home. Pieces like this are rare survivors now and really deserve to be treasured.
