Small vintage Rei Hamon print - Jewels of Okarito
Rei Hamon
$49.00
Rei Hamon (1919 - 2008) was celebrated for his depiction of New Zealand's flora and fauna. He was passionate about preserving our native bush. This small reproduction of Jewels of Okarito likely dates to the late 1970s or the early 1980s. In addition to the in print signature, Hamon has signed it in coloured ink along the central branch on which the birds are perched.
In 1976, his original "Jewels of Okarito" was presented to Queen Elizabeth II by the New Zealand Government on the occasion of her silver jubilee state visit. Hamon was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services to art in the 1981 New Year Honours.
There are a few knocks to the frame consistent with age and use. There is a bit of minor foxing at the edges of the image. It would look fabulous as part of a gallery wall.
Please look closely at the photographs as they form an important part of the description. If you have any questions please get in touch (contact@eldercroftandsons.co.nz).
