Royal Doulton Waratah Cup and Saucer with Black Floriate Border

This duo is fairly uncommon and was designed by Australian artist Lucie (Lulu) Shorter in the early twentieth century. It is in good vintage condition. There is a small nibble out of the foot of the saucer. The bottom edge of the saucer has a couple of small knicks out of the surface but they appear to date to manufacture as they are under the glaze. The bold design has an art nouveau feel with the contrast between the soft painterly flowers and the more stylised black floriate rim. A number of different versions of the Waratah pattern were produced by Royal Doulton in the first half of the twentieth century.
