Antique stamp box - featuring dog on log pile

This antique stamp box is truly a beauty… I found an almost identical one online - sold by Bonhams in their 2009 Dog Sale for US $427… it also showed me what was missing from this beautiful box - originally it featured the dog atop the log pile challenging a cat. Sadly the cat has been lost but you can see where it once was by the small metal supports that remains at the front left of the box. If you're not looking closely the loss will not be noticed. It is a stunning small work of art. The dog is beautifully modelled and painted - I’d argue the treatment of the dog is actually superior to the one sold at Bonhams. A perfect gift for a dog loving stamp collector or anyone who appreciates small works of art. Add some style to your desk with this fantastic piece of history.
