This small German porcelain figure was produced by the Aelteste (Oldest) Volkstedt Porcelain Factory, Thuringia, between 1915 and 1936. It is modelled in the Dresden style, and is beautifully painted. Given its small size it seems almost miraculous that all the tiny fingers remain intact. Aelteste Volkstedt was well known for its porcelain lace in this period and this figure displays it at the cuffs and on the shirtfront. The hat makes this small boy seem like a character from a fairytale - perhaps an elf or sprite of some kind. Sadly, there is a small loss to the bottom of the jacket on the left at the front - it is only noticeable on close inspection. The flaw is reflected in the price. It is just 102mm high.
