This beautiful blue-grey mid-century vase is a classic piece of Wedgwood. I like the ribbed body on this elegant trumpet-shaped vase, which has an embossed cream-coloured garland of grape vines around the top and is sitting on a pedestal base. This Wedgwood Queensware vase was made in 1954 and is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs.

Wedgwood's story began in 1759 when their founder, Josiah Wedgwood I, aged just 29, started as an independent potter in Burslem, England. Josiah Wedgwood I (1730 – 95) has been celebrated as a pioneer in manufacture, design and marketing, capitalising on a rapidly changing consumer market in the 18th century. Queen's Ware was named by Queen Charlotte. After ordering a tea set from Wedgwood, the Queen commanded it be called Queensware, and honoured the inventor by appointing him Her Majesty's Potter'. Josiah I capitalised on his growing reputation with his new title, 'Potter to Her Majesty', which he added to invoices and orders. Over 260 years later, Wedgwood is still producing many of the materials Josiah invented, such as Jasper, Queen's Ware and Black Basalt.
