Fabulous 1930s Edinburgh Crystal Ashtray (E&L - Edinburgh and Leith Crystal)

This fabulous Edinburgh Crystal ashtray dates to the 1930s and has all the elegance of the era. It was a time when smoking was just about the norm and Hollywood films helped to glamorise it. I love the colour of this beautifully cut crystal. It is a subtle pale amber tone. While originally intended as an ashtray, it could certainly be repurposed as a trinket dish. The E & L marking for Edinburgh and Leith Crystal dates this piece clearly to the 1930s and it certainly exudes Art Deco elegance. Coloured pieces like this are particularly rare and collectable. 

Edinburgh and Leith Crystal (later Edinburgh Crystal) was a renowned Scottish glass manufacturer established in the 1860s, known for high-quality hand-cut lead crystal. Early pieces, often marked "Edinburgh & Leith," are highly collectible. It officially became Edinburgh Crystal in 1955, sadly the company went into administration in 2006.
