Kut Hing was a prominent Chinese pewter maker based in Swatow (now Shantou) during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Known for intricate hand-engraved dragon motifs, their high-quality pewterware—including tea sets, canisters, and barware—was often designed for export, featuring both Chinese characters and English signatures. They were active from the late 1800s through until the 1920s and were known for producing high-quality pewter pieces. The dragons (symbolizing power) and intricate floral designs on this piece are typical of their highly regarded work. Kut Hing pewter is an example of Chinese colonial-era metalwork, blending traditional Chinese craftsmanship with the demands of the export market. These pieces are popular for their intricate designs and quality workmanship. There are some minor knocks to this bowl, consistent with age and use.
