Arts and Crafts Oak Book Trough

I love antique furniture but sadly I don’t have the storage space to sell it. So I do a little happy dance (internally) when I find a small piece like this. This Arts and Crafts oak book trough is beautifully made and is perfect for displaying your antique books and/or other small treasures. Perfect for a desk or a sideboard, this handcrafted piece dates the beginning of the twentieth century c.1900-1910. It is 170mm high 215mm deep and 410mm wide externally. The internal width is 320mm. Similar pieces were sold through Liberty of London. I love the keyed mortise and tenon joints and the heart motif on either end. On the bottom you can see a couple of screws have been added but they probably aren’t really necessary. There are also some fine lines on the base added by the original maker to ensure perfect alignment. I’ve added a few pieces in the photos to give you a sense of possible styling options.
