Rare MV Rangitiki (NZSC) Sterling Silver Souvenir Spoon - 1954
J A Wylie & Co
$79.00
The MV Rangitiki was a famous passenger and cargo liner of the New Zealand Shipping Company (NZSC) that operated between the late 1920s and early 1960s. Souvenir spoons from this vessel exist, but they are almost always silver-plated rather than solid sterling silver so this piece is a rare treasure.
The spoon is in excellent condition. It was made by J A Wylie & Co and was assayed in Birmingham in 1954. It came to me with some other beautiful European silver spoons from the same era. It is lovely to imagine the voyage of its original owners. In our modern world of relatively swift international flights it is so interesting to think back to the slower pace of travel by ocean liner in the early and mid-twentieth century.
