This narrow tray is a fabulous piece of vintage kiwiana. It is in excellent condition and interestjngly came with a piece of glass lining it. I’m not sure if it is original to the piece or was added by an owner keen to protect the surface. It is marked sovereign on the back and includes a full list of the timbers featured. It dates from the 1960s/70s and is both stylish and functional.

Whanganui-based firm Sovereign Woodworkers Ltd produced a wide range of wooden wares highlighting the beauty of our native timber. It was established in 1949 by Austin Brasell, Arnold (Arnie) Burling and Wyn Hart. The firms heyday was the 1960s and it remained popular throughout the 1970s, eventually closing in 1992. They produced a vast range of products including trays, pencil cases, coffee tables, bowls, ashtrays, 21st birthday keys, rulers, book ends and picture frames.

Please look closely at the photographs as they form an important part of the description. If you are based in Wellington, free delivery is available in the central, southern and eastern suburbs, or for $5 in the northern and western suburbs. If you would like further information, please get in touch directly (contact@eldercroftandsons.co.nz).
