New Zealand Kauri and Paua Bowl, Pacific Series 4 by Shane Hewitt

This elegant kauri bowl is the work of talented craftsman Shane Hewitt, who has over thirty years experience hand turning and carving kauri. This bowl is beautifully made. I love its elegant shape and the treatment of the rim in particular. There is no mistaking its New Zealand origins with the red koru form at the centre surrounded by paua inlay. Hewitt has spent many years passing on his skills through courses at Northland Polytechnic and in demonstrations around New Zealand and internationally. It has sustained a few minor knocks as you can see in the photos but it is a truly lovely piece.
