This Wedgwood Jasperware portrait medallion or plaque is very rare. History buffs, or fans of The Crown, may already have worked out why it is so unusual. It was produced in 1936 for the Coronation of Edward VIII, however that event never occurred as Edward chose to abdicate in December of that year so that he could marry American divorcĂ©e Wallis Simpson. When forced to choose between love and the crown Edward, later the Duke of Windsor, famously chose love, so instead his brother George VI was crowned in 1937. Times have certainly changed…

This classic piece of Wedgwood jasperware is in excellent condition and would be a fantastic addition to a Wedgwood collection or to one devoted to royalty.

Please look closely at the photographs as they form an important part of the description. If you are based in Wellington, free delivery is available in the central, southern and eastern suburbs, or for $5 in the northern and western suburbs. If you would like further information, please get in touch directly (contact@eldercroftandsons.co.nz).
