Art Deco era Royal Stafford Chinoiserie Dragon Cup and Saucer

This lovely cup and saucer was made in the 1920s or early 1930s and shows the Art Deco fascination with the arts of Asia. The complex design is transfer printed but the red and green enamel work has been applied by hand. It is an elegant shape and I particularly love the green handle. It is in outstanding condition with only the tiniest loss of green enamel to the interior band of the saucer. At the beginning of the twentieth century the name Royal Stafford was introduced by Thomas Poole, who had been producing china at Longton, Stoke-on-Trent since the 1880s. Lovely to admire but equally good to use daily, this set is sure to brighten your day.
